preventing pre menstrual MIGRAINES.

Has anyone come up with any good preventive medicine for migraines? Mine come systematically right before and during the menstrual cycle. My (male) neurolight in Paris didn't seem to see a linkk with migraines and my cycle - or offer any preventive advice. I take Relpax to relieve.
Does anyone have a more natural or preventive solution?

  • There are other options (such as taking special contraception pills to prevent the migraines), but all these require prescription, so you should consult a doctor about them. Another options is taking preventive medications (similar to the relpax), but then again - you should consult a doctor first.

A list of natural treatments fro migraine can be found here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Migraine#Herbal_and_nut...), but make sure you neurologist is aware of whatever you intend to take before you start to take it

  • I have the same problem and take Topomax to prevent the migrains. Also make sure you get enough rest right before you start. There seems to be a correlation. It took about 2 months to fully work but at least the first migrain after I started taking Topomax wasn't as severe.

  • I had sever Migraines. I started Prozac and ever since i have not had the problem. The only other time I have not had Migraines in my life was when i was pregnant, but my mom told me it was not a cure =)lol!
Talk to your Dr. about Prozac. It beats taking Imetrex shots while having one.
