  • my wife also had leg cramps, here are some tips to prevent them from happening-
Avoid standing or sitting with your legs crossed for long periods of time.
Stretch your calf muscles regularly during the day and several times before you go to bed.
Rotate your ankles and wiggle your toes when you sit, eat dinner, or watch TV.
Take a walk every day, unless your midwife or doctor has advised you not to exercise.
Stay hydrated during the day by drinking water regularly.
Try a warm bath before bed to relax your muscles.

good luck and congrats! my wife got those tips from a physiotherapist friend of hwer and they worked out nicely.

  • Wear support hose during the day, and lift your feet up when you are resting, if possible. Use a heating pad or gently massage the back of your thigh to ease it, you can also ask your husband to do it for you.

  • You can try to prevent night cramps by wearing socks to bed or by pressing your foot against the bed board. If the painful cramps continue, ask your doctor about calcium or magnesium supplements as they can sometimes help.

  • I get leg (calf) and sometimes foot cramps and have for many years. I told my father about this who was in the Navy for 30 years from WWII on. He said they would pinch their upper lip when this happened to them at sea. I laughed at him and said he was crazy. I also suffered and had many sleepless nights. One night I woke up felt the cramp setting in and I grabbed my upper lip and pinched. It blew my mind when the pain didn't intensify. I don't know why but it worked. Since that day I have started pinching my nose as well and it seems to wotk pretty well too since I have a mustache it's hard to pinch my lip. The only catch to this is you must do it before the cramp sets in, once it sets in it won't make it go away. My guess is it has something to do with the nerves. good luck

  • I used to have cramps. My co-worker told me to abstain temporarily or limit my carbohydrate containing foods most especially rice and bread. I took her advice. I don't remember when was the last time I had leg/shoulder cramps after that. By the way, some basketball players (I noticed when I was a kid) have a technique of getting rid of cramp attacks in a few seconds/minutes. While sitting on a chair stretch the affected leg/foot. Then press the big toe of the affected foot by using the heel of the unaffected foot until the cramp is gone. These tricks may or may not work for you. A physician maybe of better help. Sayong
