I have heard that he may have had borderline personality disorder.

There are a lot of artists (visual, musical etc..) that were thought to have one type of mental disorder or another... I believe that Van Goh is just another artist that people have studied and come to the conclusion that he may have suffered with bipolar disorder. I don't believe he was actually diagnosed with anything. Back in those days being diagnosed and treated for mental illness was rair.. and the treatment was more mistreatment than it was treatment...
