At the end of the day if your friends are balanced and controlling their lives it doesnt matter if they have bipolar disorder. If they choose not to disclose that information to you then it is important that you respect that choice. Rest assured IF they do have bipolar disorder they have a support system around them and that support system is all they need. It is individual choice if the person wants to involve you in their illness or not. I would respect the persons privacy and leave the subject alone.
Offer your support only if the person is suffering and needs your help or support... It will do your friends no good (if they indeed do have bipolar disorder) to be called out on it. Be happy for them if they are well right now...

There is a great book it is called An Unquiet Mind, it is the personal story of a woman suffering with bipolar disorder. I found it really helpful in understanding what my partner was going through. The book expressed the thoughts and feelings that friends and family suffering with this illness sometimes have trouble putting into words.

it depends which medicaments they take. if they take for example neuroleptica (drugs acting on nerves which have a in fact only side-effects) they will oppress the symptoms and you will not remark the behaviour of a bipolar-disorder. if the medication is too heavy, you will instead see that the persons behaviour looks like the one of a person of 90 years and more. only few will talk openly about their illness if it is bipolar disorder or they will negate anything about it. doctors will tell you that bipolar disorder is uncurable. for my part i can say it is not. if the person is in a secured environment with a lot of love around, a stabilisation will result in time and so the bipolar disorder will be sustainable and won't be remarked anymore by the people around the affected person. the general effect of neuroleptica is to slow down the movements, thoughts and agility in all possible ways. such drugs will never cure! but the ones producing them make a lot of money with it!

some people don't even know they are bipolar, going on for many years wondering what it is they suffer from. While some just don't like talking about it.

That's not really what she was asking, she just wanted to know if "can bipolar not be shown at all in a person's behaviour if treated with medications??"
She isn't saying she will "out" her friends or confront them about it.

I certainly didn't intend to come across as defensive or confrontational in my previous post. I wanted to say that if her friends do have bipolar disorder and they are healthy at the moment that it is up to them if they want to disclose that information to others. Be happy for them was my point.
To answer the question though, if a person is bipolar and is properly treating the illness than you wouldnt be able to tell they are bipolar. :0)

if you don't know a persons behaviour without drugs, you can't say what this person has. also do the drugs they take change a lot of their usual behaviour. a bipolar disorder can also sometimes express tremendous fear. in such a case TEMESTA for example will help rapidly but you can depend on TEMESTA, if you have to take it for a longer period.
