I am Saloni, 17 and a keen coffee-lover. Now-a-days, I drink lot of coffee which my brother has noticed and advised me to minimize the quantity. He also blames coffee for heart diseases and addiction status of the person. Is coffee so harmful?

  • I once wrote an article about coffee and caffeine :

Some of us are really addicted to coffee. I have some friends who always start their morning with a cup of coffee. They say that they can’t concentrate on their jobs if they miss a cup of coffee in the morning. Some believe that missing coffee in the morning will generate such an headache. So, is it true?

Caffeine inside the coffee is really seducing. Starting from a cup of hot coffee with the scrambled-egg breakfast (you start feeling hungry, huh?) until a cold starbucks frapuccino, caffeine cannot be separated from our daily life. In medical point of view, yes it is a vasoconstrictor that can help reduce the headache symptoms. And since it has sympathetic effect, caffeine is really a help for us to stay awake and keep concentrating.

But lately, there’re pros & cons about the caffeine addiction. The pros say that caffeine is good for our health, it can improve memory, decrease fatigue, and keep the concentration. Consump

  • Coffee is a great morning stimulant. Tea can do the same thing. There are lots of grades of coffee. The normal stuff you can get in a regular restaurant is usually not the best grade. I drink my coffee black. Sugar is not so good for you, but it can give you more energy and keep you going in difficult circumstances. If you shop around for better blends, grind your own beans, and keep your ground coffee fresh, its much better. There is actually a Starbucks blend that is quite excellent. You can easily tell the difference. The really good blends aren't the ones on sale. I find that if you keep your pot of coffee in a caraffe or a thermos where it won't evaporate, it will stay good a long time. Letting a pot of coffee sit on the warmer where it can evaporate all day, will ruin it after a while. My doctor told me that all I needed for morning stimulation was coffee. It keeps me alert when I study and read most days. Enjoy!!!

  • I also drink coffee but in moderation say two cups a day. Coffee is a good stimulator of brain makes a big spark for your nerves to work quickly. Caffeine in coffee is world's most popular psychoactive drug; it energizes you and eventually causes the body to have problems. It does increases the blood pressure and causes insomnia when consumed in large quantity. Researchers have proved that diabetes and heart diseases will be in control if you are on coffee. Impact of Cancer is also reduced by the consumption of coffee as it has antioxidants to fight. Anyways too much of anything is no good. I shall suggest you to have coffee in moderation as you cannot completely stop it and there is nothing to worry about it.

  • The last response says "coffee is bad for you". This response gives no basis for its conclusion.

Coffee is served in hospitals. If coffee was really bad for you, then hospitals are doing bad things to patients and would have been sued for malpractice. A judge would laugh you right out of court for trying.

There are no FDA health warnings on coffee.

Coffee is served in restaurants everywhere in the world. Its everywhere in the work place. There aren't any rules concerning coffee.

  • Can you still sleep? As long you can normally sleep, the quantity of coffees you drink daily are reasonable. Drink your coffee black if you can. White refined sugar is not healthy and milk is already pasteurized if not completely destroyed under high heat to be homogenized. Most Italians, Spaniards or the French people drink coffee black or natural without any additives - so do I. There are other beverages with caffeine like Coca Cola or Energy Drinks. As long as you feel good and enjoy to drink coffee - keep it this way. I never heard till this day that someone died because he/she abused to drink coffee!

  • Why don't you try herbal coffee? There are also coffee products that can help improve your health. You can ask me what brand of coffee is it. What's more it contains about less than 0.06 caffeine content. Actually, it can help diminish the effects of caffeine (or other toxins present in our body)

Coffee is rich from antioxidants that can help combat free radicals from harsh environment thus, helps to prevent cancer.

Great after waking up on the morning....

Unfiltered coffee is a significant source of cafestol and kahweol, which are diterpenes that have been implicated in the cholesterol-raising effects of coffee.

The results of epidemiological research suggest that coffee consumption may help prevent several chronic diseases, including type 2 diabetes mellitus, Parkinson's disease and liver disease (cirrhosis and he

  • Coffee is remarkably GOOD for you. You can drink too much of anything, sure. Coffee is a powerful antioxidant, and protects from Parkinsons. The danger is more the milk and sugar people add because lactose is hard to digest and sugar - well sugar causes many health issues. see http://www.positivelycoffee.org/

  • hi Nalex - I'm not sure I agree with you about the fact that coffe is so good for you. I think that's a bold statement. I'm more comfortable with the notion that everything should be balanced.

  • There was a Swedish King in the 18th centuary (Gustav 3rd) who declared coffee to be poisonous and he set up an experiement to prove it. He sentenced 2 criminals to a daily drink for life. One criminal had to drink tea, the other coffee. Unfortunately the one who drank tea died first... but not until he was 83. And the king died before both of them anyway as he was assassinated!

  • The key to good health is balance- so if you are a coffee fan, just make sure you keep a tab on how much you have. Coffee can be your friend as well as your enemy i.e. it can be good as well as bad too. To read about it see http://www.medimanage.com/my-diet/articles/caffeine-...
