what are some of the symptoms of latex allergies?

I work in renovations and use many different products in my work such as, latex and oil-based paints, stains, glues for ceramic tiles, etc. and I am wondering if I'm allergic to the latex gloves I wear because I find that my hands sweat very quickly and they become very itchy, and it usually spreads up my arms. It resembles a heat rash and goes away once I've stopped wearing the gloves. I also cannot use latex condoms for the same reason, it causes me to get a rash. I would like to know if there are particular symptoms to look for in latex allergies. Any ideas would be helpful.

  • Yes, those are definite signs of latex allergy. Please get yourself some nitrile gloves or other latex free gloves to wear. Also, do some research. Latex allergies are cumulative. The more you are exposed, the more allergic you will become. Many people are almost housebound due to this terrible allergy. It's not just itchy skin. It can turn into an anaphalactic reaction. Some people get hives and rashes, or burning skin. Others have flu-like symptoms and brain fog or gastric problems. Here is a link to an online forum that can give you more information http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/LAForum/. Here is a link to the American Latex Allergy Association http://www.latexallergyresources.org/ Also, FYI, latex paint generally does not contain any natural latex rubber.
