  hello,,i am going to be honest with you,your friend will get cancer of the lungs,if he continues to smoke,,i am a retired respiratory therapist/paramedic,it is my job to fix people who give themselves a respiratory disease,and cancer of the lung,it is not a pretty disease to die from.cigarette smoking is the main cause of lung cancer.the more cigarettes smoked per day and the lower the age at which smoking started,the greater the risk of lung cancer..most people who have lung cancer or getting lung cancer,will have a chronic cough from bronchitis,other symtoms include coughing up blood,shortness of breast,chest pain,and wheezing.....mrfoot56

  addiction is the least of the guys problems,if lung cancer is diagnosed at an early stage,surgical removal of the lung maybe performed.anticancer drugs and radiation therapy will be used to contain the spread of the tumor or destroy the cancer cells...good luck to you mrfoot56
