Massage can be helpful in controling some chronic pain BUT is not a "fix" as clever stated it depends on cause and some people in pain can not stand to be touched so it doesn't work for them. I agree with clever about talking to her doctor about her pain, medications, pain management and what sounds like her depression! There ar epain management clinics, injections that can be given etc. So I agree with clever talk to her doctor and let he/she know how much this is interfering in her life and he/she should be able to help her with a new treatment plan and perhaps even counciling...Good Luck!

While many conditions can be helped by massage, some cannot. It really depends on what is causing her pain. As it sounds like she has ongoing health issues you might try suggesting that she consult with a pain management specialist, or even her primary care physician, about massage. Pills/prescription pain medications are not the only method of managing chronic pain. I don't know what is causing your mom's chronic pain, but you mentioned that she is not handling stress well and tends to be negative, perhaps depression or something related is also an issue. I think it's definitely worth discussing these things with her and with her physician. The right pain management professional and a good counselor can work wonders.

A very good idea to have your mother have massage. This can relieve most of her pain and is well known to relieve pain. The main problem with the pain is that the blood circulation in not good and the massage and exercise increases the blood flow and this helps to reduce the pain.
