Any government agencies which could help my friend who can't pay for a psychiatrist to manage his bipolar?

My friend is not capable to pay for a psychiatrist to manage with his bipolar disorder. He has been clinically diagnosed and his bipolar disorder is seriously affecting his quality of life and he is unable to function normally. He is having suicidal thoughts and he really needs help. • If you are a citizen of America or if you are here in America then you might have noticed that there are psychiatric emergency departments at the hospital. They’ll either give you samples or a prescription to be filled at that hospital for low cost. It would generally be a time taking process until you meet the psychiatrist and the hospitals are usually teaching hospitals-but you can get a definite help. Also, check out other local agencies in your area such as behavioral services, case management and clinics.

  • Contact a local Social Security administrator. There are government funds available for people living with emotional handicaps (bipolar disorder, depression, schiophrenia, are all considered as such) are elligible for disability benefits. If they meet certain income criteria, they can get government assistance to help pay for medications, doctor's visits, and therapy. Give this website a try: http://www.ssa.gov/disability/
