  • what is "too much"? what? 10 hours a day? 14? 20?
some people sleeps more then other. some infectious diseases might cause sleepiness (EBV - it's a virus), could be hormonal problem, could be a side effect of certain medications. there must be other symptoms that can help you point out the problem.

  • Hi,
Too much sleeping is a kind of sleep disorder. It might be due to tiredness, stress siturations, or sleepless nights the preceding days. These can be overcome by a disciplined sleeping pattern. Sometimes a neuro condition may make people to sleep irrespective of time and place. Check if your family member is energetic after sleep and goes to sleep again in a short period after waking up. Then this condition might be narcolepsy, which definitely warrants medical attention. In other cases like sleep apnea, which is associated with trouble breathing, people tend to sleep irrespective of the place but too tired even after sleeping for 9 to 10 hours. You please monitor your family member is he/she is gasping for breath in the middle of the sleep, which they might not have noticed. Also check for snoring. If overweight, reducing weight might help to overcome this.
