my 4yr old son develops rashes in neck, back of elbows & knees resulting in intense itching. what can be done?
he also has a tendency of violently scratching his head, and, at times the groin area. Itching is more intense at night. He has had this problem off and on, since his birth. Since last about one week he has also developed a tendency of asking me to continually scratch his back. We reside in India, where the weather is hot and humid (currently during summers) and it is quite cold during winters. My son develops the above symptoms both during summer and during winter.

sounds like allergy or something. there are over the counter creams that might help him relax the areas- but it's not a solution. you need to take him to see a dermatologist. he might decide doing an allergy test and figure out what is it that your son is allergic to. that is, IF it is an allergic reaction.

You should have met the doctor by this time and get him diagnosed for his good. There could be many reasons for these rashes, which range from infections to allergies. Eczema and psoriasis can be a possible diagnosis for your child but still they need to go through a proper diagnosis by an expert only. It is not possible to diagnose and discuss right unless the diagnosis is complete. You must see whether your son is eating well and is also having a good sleep. This might help him in reducing the symptoms.
