would hypoglycaemia also cause muscle stiffness. My hand only becomes fully functional when i have eaten.

Along with this symptom I also get a severe headache and slight nausea which also subsides upon eating. I also suffer from relapsing remitting MS but I don't believe that I am having such symptoms as MS is far more cruel as paralysis can usually for many months if not years and wouldn't subside at once upon eating.

  • Hi Eggies,
Normally hypoglycemic patients develop muscle weakness due to glucagon response and reduced muscle glucose. You may have more frequent meals or fruit juices along with medications to prevent this condition. Glucagon secretion is minimized after intake and so you don’t feel the stiffness. Your nauseated condition is actually due to glucagon that makes sugar level less between meals. Take extra carbohydrates. Again, cause of hypoglycemia is a very important factor. Avoid prolonged physical activity. Discuss your issues with endocrinologist who will be able to suggest with a type of meal and a change in exercise pattern. Don’t worry. Good luck..

  • Hypoglycemia do cause muscle stiffness whereas you are diagnosed for Relapsing/Remitting Multiple Sclerosis and this also can cause your symptoms. But generally due to the lack of the energy giving element glucose the body and especially the brain cannot work well and these symptoms occurs. Once you eat, these symptoms reduce as you get the molecules required for your energy. Muscle stiffness causes the patients of MS to slow down in their movement and it also affects on the scale of coordination. Eating will not reduce the stiffness, as it a neurological condition and can be treated by stretching exercise and medicines. You need to meet your doctor.
