My friend has been treated for ectopic pregnancy. Can you explain how this occurs?

My friend has been treated for Ectopic pregnancy. As a result of this she was unable to work for a period of 15 days. Is this a life threatening one and Can you explain how this occurs? Is this a rare condition and how can it be prevented?

    The Ectopic pregnancy can be explained as the deposition of the fertilized egg; other than uterus. If it is left untreated it can be life threatening. It can be avoided by the use of condoms and if you want to get conceived then have a regular checkup with your doctors.
