hello, arthritis gets worse, even without zantac or any antacid, thats how the disease works,its...zantac has no affect on arthritis...the antinflamatory(pain pills)causes problems in some people,so they have to use ant-acids..thats the reason why some drug companys, sell them together.arthritis is a illness that doesnt have a cure, doctors try to control swelling and pain..if you are having much more pain, you should tell him,he will increase your pain medication....mrfoot56

Hi,
The combination pack that you are referring to contains nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs which help to reduce substances in the body that causes pain, inflammation etc. and stomach ulcer is a possible side effect which is normally canceled out by using proton-pump inhibitors in the same pack. PPIs reduce the formation of stomach ulcers. While there is no reported evidence of antacids to worsen osteoarthritis, there is a possibility of poor calcium absorption. Please get in touch with your ortho physician, who will help you with medication changes or addition of calcium supplements as needed. Good luck.
