  • Hi Mistywood,
In cerebellar herniation, as cerebellar tonsils move downwards, it causes firmness on lower brain stem and upper cervical canal. Thus it can actually hinder control centers responsible for respiratory and cardiac functions. If it is accompanied by cerebral edema, either due to water buildup in injured cells or increased vascular permeability, it extends along the optic papillae resulting in blurring of vision. Funduscopic examination is carried out to rule this out. Please consult with your specialist who will help you with appropriate treatment measures. Good luck.
