Answers (1) to: "what do the mucous membranes protect"

  • Mucous membrane produces a thick fluid called as mucus. Mucus protects the body from infection, by trapping the microbes in its sticky fluid. It also lubricates the tissues. This mucous membrane is found in the lining of cells inside of nose. It is also found in the digestive tract, respiratory tract and uro-genital tract. It protects the organs of these organ systems from the infection and it also lubricates them.
