Does this mean that i would also get diagnosed for it in my middle age?

My mother has been diagnosed for Menopause. She is 42 years old. Does this mean that I would also get diagnosed for it in my middle age? My mom says that it will happen to me. But she cannot confirm the age. Her guess is that it generally happens around or after 35 years.

  • Your mom is right as the menopause commonly starts after 35. Your mother has entered into this stage at the right age. There is no need to worry also, as it is common and natural.

  • Menopause, as unpleasant as it is, is something all women will experience. The symptoms can start at any time during middle age, however, women who have had total hysterctomies will usually start after the surgery. My aunt had a hysterectomy at 28, and immediately started menopause. The condition is caused by the decrease of estrogen production. Usually this happens gradually, unless you have had your ovaries removed with a hysterectomy. No one can predict when a woman will go through menopause; there is a rule of thumb used by many doctors regarding its onset; the younger you are when you start menstruating, the older you will be when you stop. ( if you were 12 when got your first period, you will probably stop at age 55). However, if you got your first period when you were 15, you will probably stop around age 45-50. The average age is around 45.
