I am worried what could be the cause for the mood changes...

My girlfriend is showing severe mood changes and it happened in a month’s time. I am worried what could be the cause for the mood changes and would this be due to the depression or any other disorder. I love her a lot and I want to make her to get well soon?

  • The reason for the mood changes may be due to various reasons it may occur due to the stress or may be due to the bipolar. You can better take her to the doctor for evaluating the symptoms of the bipolar.

  • Just because someone is having mood swings, does not mean they have some kind of serious mental illness. Mood changes, particularly in women, are often caused by hormone changes (Pre-menstrual or menopause) are common reasons for these mood swings;so are hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) and thyroid conditions. Some women who have been taking hormones for birth control or menopause experience this when they stop taking them. Stress and frustration, along with lack of sleep can also cause a person (not just women), to become cranky or irritable. Also, mental illness rarely just appears suddenly (a month is sudden); they often take several months to several years to fully manifest (barring a life crises or trauma) which can bring on sudden symptoms. I would suggest that she make an appointment with a family physician first, and have a thorough check-up to rule out a medical problem. If there is no physical cause, then you can consider a mental health issue.
