My friend has been diagnosed with skin cancer. The primary symptoms were discoloration of skin followed by a noticeable wound. This wound sensed suspicion and upon consultation he has now been diagnosed with skin cancer. I know that any cancer treatment is followed by surgery and chemotherapy. But I am wondering whether Chinese herbal medicines could treat skin cancer?

  • No, Chinese medicines will not be able to treat cancer. Herbal drugs have not been researched well for the treatment of cancer. I have found that they do help in preventing the cancer. But still the results are not sure; as in most cases the skin cancer is dependent on lifestyle and genetics as well. Surgery and prescribed therapy are the best way to treat cancer. The surgery and therapy do have the problem of side effects and Chinese herbals or even acupuncture can help in its reduction. This has been found to work well in reduction of the side effects.

  • i wouldn't count on it...skin cancer is a rapid and very dangerous, i wouldn't experiment on such a critical subject. i'd go with the most effective and well known western method.
i don't have anything against Chinese medicine...i think it's a wonderful method of prevention. but in those cases every good Chinese therapist will recommend the same.

  • There are three main categories of skin cancer: basal cell, squamous cell and melanoma. The first two are usually treated by something called cryosurgery (freezing) or possibly by laser. The surgery is then followed up with a kind cream that destroys cell that may have been missed by the surgery. Melonoma is different; this is the kind that can kill you if left untreated. It lies under the surface of the skin and affects the cells that produce melanin. The fact that these cells lie below the surface of is, in effect, what makes it so deadly. These deeper cells lie close to blood vessels and lymph glands, and left untreated, can easily enter into the system (metastisis) and spread to other parts of the body. So, if you have been diagnosed with melanoma, follow your doctors orders for treatment. If you have one the the others, Chinese herbals probably won't hurt you, but they may not treat it either.
