Post partum depression usually dosen't happen until after the baby is born. Doctors believe it is caused by the changes in hormone levels after delivery. Hormone levels in the third trimester are usually at a constant. stable level to insure that the baby stays in the uterus until delivery time. After delivery, however, these hormones drop off simply because they are no longer needed to maintain the pregnancy. In some women, these changes affect certain chemicals in the brain that can lead to postpartum depression. Try to remember that not all women are affected by this; in fact, there are more women who don't suffer from it, than women who do. The stress of worrying about this can affect her by giving her high blood pressure that can be harmful to her and the baby.
