apart from surgery, is there any other way of treating kidney cancer?

My mom has been diagnosed with kidney cancer. She was struggling with back pain for some months. She has been suggested to take tests after her first consultation with the doctor. The test results have now confirmed the cancer. She may have to undergo a surgery. Apart from surgery, is there any other way of treating cancer.
