Could these seizures lead to permanent brain damage?

My father was having alcohol related seizures which caused him to fall. Now he is in the hospital for Detox. One day he seems to be improving and the next day he is bad again. Could these seizures lead to permanent brain damage?

  • unfortunately yes
the risk of bleeding into head is high(than other people) in alcoholic patients..this MAY lead to some changes in behavior etc
so u must take care during every seizure episode to avoid a fall ,hitting head etc ..ok bye

  • Hi,
Alcohol is a central nervous system depressant and not a stimulant. It is quickly absorbed through stomach and carried through blood to brain and acts on neurons. Brain has a threshold for the amount of alcohol it can tolerate. Few people have lower threshold if they have underlying seizure tendency. Mixing alcohol with other recreational drinks pose one at high risk for seizure. Drinking above this threshold leads to seizure. Though recurrent epileptic events can bring out structural brain lesions, often those who abstain from alcohol after a single seizure, will not get recurrent seizures.
