  • In hypostasis areas you can feel skin tension and straining, there is practically no pain at the same time.
  • At a laryngeal edema hoarse cough is noted, voice becomes gruff, respiratory difficulty and short wind appear, the face becomes blue and sharply turns pale. The throat swells in a third of cases which is life-threatening.

At the first symptoms of angioneurotic hypostasis it's necessary to call an ambulance and give first aid to the patient. It's most important to isolate the person from the allergen if it's known. First aid at giant hives can save life therefore it's important not to panic and do every organsthing accurately and quickly.

Open windows and remove all tight clothes from the patient's body, unfasten the belt and the collar. Place the patient in a semi-sitting or sitting pose, it helps to facilitate breath.

Put a cool wet towel on the affected place, rinse the nose of the patient with vasoconstrictive drops, put his/her feet in warm water. If the person has an allergy to drugs, it's necessary to report about it to the doctors at once.

As a rule, emergency doctors inject antihistaminic drugs first of all, after that they bring the patient to the hospital. Even if the patient feels better, he/she should not refuse hospitalization since improvement can be temporary. Sometimes there is a repeated allergic reaction after a while and it can be more serious and often demands resuscitation.

The method of treatment of giant hives in the hospital depends on localization of the hypostasis. Anyway it's necessary to inject strong antiallergic drugs. If the throat is swollen, hospitalization in intensive care unit or resuscitation can be required. At asphyxia the doctor has to make an intubation of tracheas and inject muscle relaxant.

Beside the main drugs the treatment of angioedema demands use of auxiliary medicines. Antihistaminic and hormonal medicines are usually prescribed as the main ones, and cromoglicates – as auxiliary. The treatment demands absolute rest and a special diet.
It's necessary to treat giant hives only under supervision of doctors and without domestic medicine. Usually such treatment lasts for several weeks.
