As with any drug, users of Tadalafil should follow the instructions on the label (or inside the package) while using it. Additionally, consulting with a pharmacist or a health care professional before using the medication can help prevent any adverse side effects from using the drug, or from using it improperly.

The published list of side effects from Cialis (Tadalafil) include:

  • muscle aches
  • back pain
  • headaches
  • flushing
  • indigestion or upset stomach
  • stuffy/runny nose
  • and nausea

In clinical tests, as well as through reports by men using Tadalafil, other side effects have also been noted. Some men using Tadalafil have reported having dizziness and low blood pressure following use of Cialis. The popular condition known as “blue vision” (or blurred vision) is also a well documented – though rare – side effect of Tadalafil.

On rare occasions, men have reported experiencing numbness, pain, and a tingling feeling in their arms, jaw and neck during sexual intercourse following use of Tadalafil.

Some men using Tadalafil report abnormal ejaculation as a result of using Tadalafil. Their ejaculations are either too heavy or too thin compared to their “normal” state. Other men have reported Priapism, an extremely painful condition where the penis does not return to a flaccid state for a long time (sometimes as long as 4 hours), as a side effect from the use of Tadalafil.

More serious side effects of Tadalafil include tightness in the chest, shooting pain up the arms and the chest or shortness of breath, prolonged swelling of the throat, lips, face and tongue.

The good news however is that these side effects don’t appear to be too serious, nor are they long lasting. For instance, many of these side effects dissipate within a few hours of occurring. Men experiencing back aches and muscle pains usually notice them within 12 to 24 hours from taking their dose of Tadalafil. Provided the directions for use and appropriate dosage are followed, most often these symptoms will disappear within two days.

However, many users of Tadalafil may also encounter side effects that are not primarily triggered by Tadalafil (Cialis) itself, but are caused as a result of adverse reaction from other drugs or medication they are using. For instance, some users of Tadalafil might break out in hives or rashes when they start using other drugs in tandem with Tadalafil.

Dealing with side effects

It is therefore advisable to immediately stop performing any sexual activity when experiencing the more serious side effects, such as chest pain or shortness of breath. And if these side effects cause an adverse impact on the quality of their life, Tadalafil users should seek medical advice from a professional health care provider.
