What is erectile dysfunction?

Modern urology defines erectile dysfunction as a prolonged (not less than half a year) inability of a man to achieve and maintain an erection. The following are signs of erectile dysfunction:

  • an erection is insufficient for sexual intercourse;
  • an erection suddenly disappears directly during intercourse;
  • an erection is completely absent.

There is a constant interaction and rivalry between erectogenic and inhibiting factors in the body of a man. The first factors are visual, tactile and olfactory erotic representations. Inhibiting factors are anxiety, fear, apprehension, expectation of failure, depression, overwork, chronic stress. There are a lot of these factors in the life of modern men.

The easiest and most convenient way to explain stable failures in bed is stresses and hard work. But erectile dysfunction is psychogenic in only 10–15% of cases. The cause of the disease in most men lies not in the brain but in the state of the vessels. Vascular disease is the main cause of erectile dysfunction. Erectile dysfunction may be a symptom of cardiovascular disease and often it is one of the earliest symptoms. Coronary heart disease occurs in 40% of patients suffering from erectile dysfunction for 4 years. Unfortunately, today only 7–10% of men receive treatment aimed at restoring blood vessels. Moreover, treatment is not always effective. Very often, urologists prescribe drugs for the treatment of prostatitis and benign prostatic hyperplasia but not for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. The most frequently prescribed treatments for sexual disorders are still herbal medicines, whose effectiveness is very low. As a result, a patient with erectile dysfunction spends from 2 to 5 years searching for adequate treatment. Therefore, relatives and, first of all, the beloved woman should do everything that a man with erectile dysfunction visit a doctor as soon as possible. The person who made the decision about treatment is already partially cured. Erectile dysfunction and medication is a complex topic. Unfortunately, there are far more pills that cause this disease than those that actually help in the treatment of dysfunction. Diuretic and many other drugs to reduce pressure, antidepressants and tranquilizers, drugs for the treatment of gastric ulcer, hormonal drugs (corticosteroids) and many other drugs have a bad effect on male potency. Effective drugs for impotence are widely available today.

Healthy men also buy these drugs to improve the quality of sex. Patients with Erectile dysfunction often increase the dose of drugs to enhance the effect without taking into account the recommendations of the doctor. It is forbidden to do this because each of the drugs can cause serious unwanted side effects. Most side effects are due to the main mechanism of action of drugs. This is vascular distention. Side effects are headache, flushing, dizziness, nasal stuffiness and nausea.

Medicines for the treatment of erectile dysfunction are contraindicated in patients with ischemic heart disease who take nitrates and molsidomine-containing agents.
