General Information Syphilis is caused by the Treponema pallidum bacterium. As soon as it is there in the body, it gradually starts affecting all organs. At the same time, Treponema dies outside of the organism very quickly. Disinfectants, detergents and even ordinary sunlight produce a destructive impact on it. This bacterium can survive for a long time only in moist conditions and when frozen.
