Antibiotics (anti – “against” + bios – “life”) are chemical compounds of biochemical origin.
New effective generations of natural and semisynthetic antibiotics are entering the market every day. Semisynthetic antibiotics are targeted at pathogenic microbes and some malignant neoplasms.

Vibramycin (Doxycycline Hyclate) belongs to the family of semisynthetic antibiotics. The main component of the medicine is Doxycycline. This active constituent was obtained in 1960 and belongs to the group of tetracycline antibiotics. These are the most studied antimicrobial drugs to date. Doxycycline shows a high bacteriostatic activity. This was achieved through chemical synthesis. The medicine permeates into the cell and disrupts the protein production in it. The microorganism loses its activity, mating ability and dies. In addition, doxycycline manifests less toxicity to the human body than other antibiotics.

Vibramycin (Doxycycline Hyclate) has an effect on a large signature of microbes. Vibramycin (Doxycycline) belongs to the class of broad-spectrum antibiotics. A disease can be caused by hundreds of different bacteria. Vibramycin is a good medicine of choice in this case, because it fights most of the known bacteria. Vibramycin acts on such dangerous bacteria as staphylococcus and streptococcus, Shigella dysenteriae and salmonella, infectious agents of gonorrhea and syphilis (gonococcus and Treponema pallidum, respectively) and many others. In addition, the medicine acts on rickettsia (intracellular parasites) and on an insidious microbe called mycoplasma. The active substance of the medidcine is also the reproduction of chlamydia.

The drug was first discovered by a group of enthusiast, who were making experiments with the existing antibiotics, trying to solve the problem of the global tolerance, spreading quickly throughout the globe. Several versions has been launched before the final and the most efficient formula has finally been designed.

This medical preparation can be prescribed to get rid of the following diseases:

  • infections of central airway caused by streptococci, haemophilus influenza, Klebsiella, mycoplasma (pneumonia, chest cold, sinusitis, pleurisy);
  • infections of genitourinary tract caused by enterobacteria, streptococci or Escherichia coli or other microorganisms;
  • sexually-received infections caused by ureaplasma, gonococcus, chlamydia and mycoplasma, including rectal infections (urethritis, mycoplasmosis, syphilis, gonorrhea, nongonococcal urethritis, ulcerating granuloma of the pudenda and transmissible veneral tumor);
  • sacred fire;
  • furunculosis;
  • comedone;
    infectious otitis;
  • gastrointestinal tract infections;
  • whooping cough;
  • malignant anthrax;
  • plague;
  • cholera and hundreds of other diseases.

The medicine is used to prevent Japanese river fever, traveler's diarrhoea, canicola fever and pollen allergy.
Vibramycin (Doxycycline Hyclate) is manufactured in the form of tablets (each contains 100 mg of active component), capsules, syrup and ampoules.

It is undesirable to use the medicine during pregnancy. Doxycycline can produce toxic effects on fetal development (delay in the development of the skeleton). It is prescribed in exceptional cases.

The active component of Vibramycin (Doxycycline), like other tetracyclines, forms stable complexes with calcium in any developing bone tissues. Do not use the drug during breast-feeding because breast contains a lot of calcium. It is strictly forbidden to use the medicine for children under 8. It is undesirable to prescribe the medicine to children younger than 12.

The active substance of the medicine has a photosensitizing effect, that is, it increases the sensitivity of the organism to ultraviolet irradiation. Therefore, the patient should avoid exposure to sunlight and use cosmetic sunscreeners during treatment.

The drug is contraindicated in the following cases:

  • allergy to the active ingredient (Doxycycline);
  • hematoporphyria and severe liver impairment;
  • renal insufficiency;
  • leukopenia.

The patient should inform attending medical doctor if he (she) has at least one of the diseases described above. Periodic monitoring of the liver and hematopoiesis is necessary in case of prolonged use of the drug. Simultaneously with th therapy it is recommended to take nystatin to prevent the development of candidiasis. The drug should only be used as directed by a doctor.

The average daily dosage for adult patients is 200 mg of active substance (2 tablets) at the beginning of treatment. Then a maintenance dose of 100 mg (1 tablet) may be administered. It should be noted that for each disease and condition of the patient an individual scheme and duration of treatment are prescribed.

Tablets are swallowed whole, washed with plenty of water. Absorption of the drug is improved when it is taken on an empty stomach.

If the patient miss a regular capsule intake, he (she) must take the dose missed as soon as possible. However, if a lot of time has already passed then it's better to continue using the medicine according to the prescribed scheme. Do not take a double dose!

The drug should be taken in the daytime with a lot of fluid. This prevents local irritating effect (esophagitis, gastritis, ulceration of the gastrointestinal mucosa).

With severe forms of purulent-septic diseases, intravenous administration of the drug is preferred. This quickly creates a high concentration of active substance in the blood. After removal of the acute condition, you should switch to oral administration of the drug.

The following side effects are possible:

  • hemolytic anemia;
  • anaphylactic reactions;
  • headache, tinnitus;
  • abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, indigestion;
  • allergic reaction to the ingredients of the drug: itching, skin rash, eosinophilia; photosensitivity, Quincke's edema (very rarely);
  • escalation of the residual blood nitrogen;
  • candidiasis;
  • intestinal dysbiosis;
  • changing the color of teeth in children.

The risk of allergic reactions is much less than when using antibiotics of the penicillin and cephalosporin groups.
Side effects are rare and usually mild.

Overdose is relatively rare.

Symptoms of overdose are as follows:

  • sicchasia and bdelygmla;
  • abdominal pains;
  • hypokalemia;
  • hypouricemia;
  • stomatitis;
  • punctuate rash on the body.

First aid in case of overdose should starts with a gastric lavage, if no more than 2-3 hours have elapsed from the moment of taking the drug. The patient should drink several glasses of cool water and induce vomiting. You should repeat this procedure several times.
The patient needs to drink as much as possible. Abundant drink will not only reduce the concentration of antibiotic in the blood, but iit will also accelerate its excretion through the kidneys with urine.

If there are severe symptoms of an overdose, please, seek doctor's advise. In a medical institution a therapy would be applied, aimed at maintenance and restoration of the impaired functions. With the treatment scheme hepatoprotectors, cardioprotectors, antioxidants, vitamin preparations, agents are used which improve capillary blood flow and metabolic processes in tissues
The outcome of an overdose treatment should be favorable provided that the patient is provided with timely assistance.

In case of an overdose of antibiotics in children hospitalization can be used even in mild cases. It is necessary to assess the hazard of the situation immediately in order to assign the right treatment.

Vibramycin (Doxycycline Hyclate) can not be taken with drugs containing calcium, iron, magnesium and sodium hydrogencarbonate. If taken simultaneously the formation of insoluble complexes is possible, which are deposited in bone tissue. If combined application is necessary, it should be at least three hours before (after) taking Vibramycin. Do not take the drug with milk, i.e. milk contains calcium.
Simultaneous administration of the drug and vitamin A is not recommended. This increases the risk of high intracranial pressure. The use of the drug significantly reduces the effectiveness of most oral contraceptives.

The effectiveness of the drug can be reduced by the following substances:

  • methylated alcohol;
  • barbiturates;
  • rifampicine;
  • carbamazepine;
  • diphenylhydantoin and other boosters of microsomal oxidation.

Vibramycin (Doxycycline Hyclate), like other antibiotics, can not be used with alcohol. Taking a drug with alcohol can lead to a disulfiram-like reaction.

Contact of antibiotic molecules with alcohol can lead to intoxication. Indicants of intoxication:

  • sicchasia and vomiting;
  • severe headaches;
  • fever, redness of the chest, face and neck;
  • cardiopalmus;
  • heavy and intermittent breathing;
  • cramps in the arms and legs.

Alcoholic drinks are contraindicated for use during the period from three days to one month (as instructed by the doctor) if the drug was taken as a course.

Vibramycin is often a drug of choice, so it was used by a large number of patients. Practically all patients admit its high efficiency.

Doctor's comments:

Dr. Collins: The broad-spectrum antibiotic “Vibramycin” has established itself as a very effective, high-quality and low-cost antibacterial drug. It quickly eliminates many urological infections. I recommend this drug to be administered together with bifidobacteria.

Dr. Edwards The drug has proven itself in the treatment of STIs. It has very low resistance to ureaplasma and to chlamydia. The disadvantage is a great likelihood of candidiasis during therapy. Antifungal drugs should be prescribed when taking Vibramycin. The drug helps very well at advanced stages of diseases. This is a huge advantage.

Patient’s comments:

Jhon McCalkin: I’ve been prescribed this thing while in military hospital. Our troops were deployed in an Asian country, full of various infections and pathogens. So, that’s how I fell with a sever form of infections, almost died. This stuff really helped me to recover, probably I owe my life to it.

Peter Soverberg: A nice and very efficient antibiotics, the only disadvantage that this is a prescription drug as opposed to many OTC options. The price is also quite affordable. Can recommend to everyone.
