Bro Zedex Syrup is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to any of its active ingredients or excipients. Use is also contraindicated in individuals with fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption, or sucrase-isomaltase deficiency due to the presence of certain sugars in the syrup formulation. Patients with severe respiratory conditions such as acute asthma, pulmonary emphysema, or who are at risk of respiratory failure should avoid this medication due to the risk of sputum retention.
Warnings
CNS Depression: Bro Zedex may induce sedation or drowsiness, affecting cognitive and motor skills; patients should exercise caution when driving or operating heavy machinery.
Serotonin Syndrome: There is a theoretical risk of serotonin syndrome when taken in conjunction with other serotonergic drugs, owing to its ingredients’ mild serotonergic activity. Symptoms such as agitation, confusion, rapid heart rate, and fluctuations in blood pressure warrant immediate medical attention.
Dermatological Reactions: Rarely, severe skin reactions, including Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis, have been reported. Discontinuation of Bro Zedex is recommended at the first appearance of skin rash or any other sign of hypersensitivity.
Dosage
The dosage of Bro Zedex Syrup should be individualized based on the severity of symptoms and patient response. The standard adult dosage is 10 ml, taken three times a day. For children aged 6 to 12 years, the recommended dose is 5 ml, three times a day. The duration of treatment should not exceed 7 days without a doctor’s recommendation. Dosage adjustments may be necessary for patients with hepatic or renal impairment.
Interactions
Pharmacodynamic Interactions: Co-administration with other CNS depressants (e.g., benzodiazepines, opioids) can enhance CNS depression. Concurrent use with antihypertensive agents may potentiate the hypotensive effect.
Pharmacokinetic Interactions: Bro Zedex may interact with enzyme inhibitors or inducers, affecting its metabolism and, consequently, its efficacy and toxicity.
