In the life of some women there are times when the birth of a child is not a desirable event. And then they decide to go for abortion. Hundreds of women all over the world die because of illiteracy in this area.

Questions that concern many women who have decided on this procedure are its timing and methods. To date, medicine has gone far, and numerous clinics offer women various techniques, including the least invasive, which include medical interruption of pregnancy.
Mini-abortion is performed with pregnancy of up to 5 weeks. The procedure consists of the fetal egg suction from the uterine cavity using a special vacuum suction device. In modern clinics, doctors use disposable flexible cannulas that prevent the risk of complications and simplify the work of the doctor.

Medical termination of pregnancy is performed at the age of 6 weeks, but some clinics offer such a procedure at a later term – up to 8 weeks. However, the longer the period, the higher the risk of the fetal egg incomplete rejection and the preservation of pregnancy. Therefore, doctors appoint this method at 7 and 8 weeks with great caution.

Instrumental termination is performed for up to 12 weeks. The optimal time for this operation is 6-7 weeks.

Another method of interrupting is performed at late stage (after 12 weeks), which can be done up to the age of 22 weeks. In this case, doctors use different methods for this procedure. According to statistics, 90% of abortions are carried out at the age of up to 12 weeks. Later operations are possible only after consultation with the medical commission.

Methods of this operation at a later date are different:

  • artificial delivery;
  • small cesarean section;
  • expansion and removal of the fetus;
  • interruption by partial birth.

All of them are associated with a high risk of subsequent complications and should be performed only in special cases. Late termination may result in blood loss, inflammatory diseases of the pelvic organs, cervical and uterine trauma, endometriosis, infertility, etc. Having decided on this procedure, it is necessary to make careful choice of a medical institution and a treating doctor.

Abortion can be spontaneous or artificial, in some cases, termination of pregnancy is necessary for medical reasons, for example, a woman has chronic diseases of the eyes, lungs, kidneys, cardiovascular system, oncology, etc. In any case, a woman needs to weigh the pros and cons and make a decision deliberately, since it can provoke very serious diseases right up to oncology.
