HEEL PAIN – like a nail stabbing! Especially mornings? Plantar fasciitis?

40M, avid runner. Woke up a week ago with this excruciating sharp pain in my LEFT heel, feels like I’m stepping on a nail! Worst first thing in the morning, eases off a bit after walking around, but comes back after rest or running. Tried icing and resting for 3 days, no real change. Sounds like plantar fasciitis? Anyone have recommendations for REALLY good supportive insoles or specific exercises? Podiatrist is booked out.

  1. Ouch, that ‘stepping on a nail’ feeling is classic plantar fasciitis. I struggled with it for months after my half-marathon. Rest and ice alone never fix it, you have to stretch and strengthen. What finally worked for me was rolling my foot on a frozen water bottle first thing in the morning and doing calf stretches before getting out of bed.

For insoles, SuperFeet or Powerstep are good OTC options, but really you need something with firm arch support, not just cushion. Also, never walk barefoot at home, wear supportive sandals or shoes even indoors. Hope you get relief soon!
