Working one-on-one with patients and their families is very rewarding. Many patients feel that genetic information is complex and understanding it will be difficult. I love seeing the lightbulb go off when a patient realizes how this information can directly impact his or her life.
No two genetic counseling sessions are the same because no two patients are the same. I start by listening to patients’ questions and concerns so that I can provide them with the information needed to make decisions that are right for them.
Understanding and applying genetic information sometimes feels like speaking a completely different language, but it allows me to help patients and their families better understand their health risks and what they can do about them.
I grew up in Appleton. Despite moving several times since graduating high school, I’m glad to once again call Appleton home.
