I embrace new technologies in vascular intervention, but apply them with good old fashioned clinical common sense. It has been my good fortune to live through the transformation of our specialty from large open surgical procedures to more minimally invasive catheter-based interventions, of which I am considered a pioneer. There is certainly a place for both. Selecting the most appropriate intervention is both the art, craft, and science of my practice. In many cases no intervention, medical therapy is the most appropriate choice. Regardless of whether medical treatment, catheter- based therapy or open surgery is offered it will be based on many years of experience and a carefully considered opinion.
