Dr. Onunkwo received his medical degree at the College of Medicine, University of Nigeria and completed his internships in internal medicine, pediatrics, OBGYN and surgery at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital. He completed his internal medicine residency at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine, Jersey City, New Jersey and his fellowship in infectious disease at the Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee.
Board-certified in infectious disease and internal medicine, Dr. Onunkwo also has diplomas in tropical medicine and international health. He is a member of the Infectious Disease Society of America and has special interest in cutaneous model of staph aureus infection and antimicrobial stewardship. In his free time, Dr. Onunkwo enjoys playing soccer and basketball.
