Dr. Mahesh S. Sharma is an Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at The University of Texas-Southwestern Medical Center and Attending Surgeon at the Children’s Medical Center of Dallas and Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas.
Dr. Sharma graduated with Honors from The University of Texas at Austin and received his medical doctorate from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. His postdoctoral education includes completion of General Surgery residency at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, MA and Cardiothoracic Surgery training at The University of Pittsburgh and the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh where he served as Chief Resident. He subsequently completed a fellowship in pediatric cardiothoracic surgery and cardiopulmonary transplantation at the Great Ormond Hospital for Children in London, England one Europe’s leading congenital heart centers.
Dr. Sharma is the author of over 50 peer-review abstracts, journal articles, …and book chapters. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and member of numerous professional societies. Dr. Sharma’s major clinical interests are in complex congenital heart defect repair and pediatric heart transplantation. His research focuses on clinical outcomes and neuroprotection in pediatric cardiac surgery.
