Dorothy A. Rooney, DMD
A trusted member of the local community, Dr. Dorothy Rooney has deep roots in the area. The second oldest of nine children, she grew up just two blocks from her current Northeast Philadelphia family dentist office.
Dr. Rooney received her RN from Lankenau Hospital School of Nursing and a BA from Long Island University. She worked as a registered nurse for 13 years before receiving her DMD from Tufts University School of Dentistry. Dr. Rooney has spent her entire dental career practicing in her Northeast Philadelphia neighborhood.
As evidence of her dedication to continuing education, Dr. Rooney attended the prestigious Pankey Institute for Advanced Dental Education. There, she focused on making relationship-based, values-driven, comprehensive dentistry the mainstay of her practice. To this end, she makes every patient’s comfort, health, and wellbeing top priorities. She is committed to utilizing the best skills and professional judgment in every …case, while always practicing the finest dental techniques and customer care.
A member of the American Dental Association and several other professional dental associations, Dr. Rooney is a current member and past board member and past president of the Eastern Dental Society. In addition, Dr. Rooney shares her skills by teaching in the Expanded Function Dental Assistant program at Manor College.
Away from the office, Dr. Rooney enjoys spending time with her husband, Allan Shannon, and her stepdaughter, Jessica. Her large, extended family includes 20 nieces and nephews. Dr. Rooney is a member of the Executive Woman’s Golf Association and current Vice President of the Greater Philadelphia chapter. She was also a co-founder and past board member of the Golf Tour of Greater Philadelphia. She also likes needlework, swing dancing, and reading.
