I grew up in the Midwest then moved to Southern California to finish training at UC Irvine. The great weather, all the different things to do, and so much diversity all helped convince me to stay and settle here. Although my father is a psychiatrist and helped inspire me to become a physician, I chose to become a retina surgeon because of the amazing microsurgical techniques used in our specialty. Staying involved in the community by volunteering is one of the most rewarding aspects of practicing medicine. I try to give back by regularly volunteering at the UMMA community clinic in Los Angeles and performing volunteer eye surgery in Central America.
