Dr. Wellen’s practice focuses on all aspects of kidney, liver and pancreatic transplantation as well as vascular access surgery. His extensive expertise includes laparoscopic surgery including such procedures as laparoscopic donor nephrectomy, robotic donor nephrectomy, robotic kidney transplants and laparoscopic placement of peritoneal dialysis catheters. Dr. Wellen has performed over 1,000 kidney transplants and the most laparoscopic/robotic donor nephrectomies in the state of Missouri. Dr. Wellen serves as the Surgical Director for the kidney and pancreas transplant programs at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and as the Surgical Director of the kidney transplant program at St. Louis Children’s Hospital.
