Why I chose to pursue a career in healthcare:Growing up the son of a nurse and a teacher, I learned early the importance of providing a useful service to my community. Combined with my lifelong love of science, this made a career in medicine a natural choice. What I want my patients to know about me:I believe strongly in the importance of practicing evidence-based medicine. This means that I make recommendations based on the best evidence available from well-designed studies and trials, and I strive to keep myself updated on the latest research. I also believe it is critical for patients to be well-informed, and personally involved in making decisions regarding their care. I spend a significant amount of time in every appointment communicating with my patients, educating them about their condition, and listening to their input. What I do when I’m not seeing patients:I have two daughters who keep me very busy when I am not at work. As a family, my wife and daughters and I love to travel, …play golf, ski, and take care of our animals. We have a small farm with sheep, goats, mini-pigs, chickens, and a pony.
