Dr. Laura McAuley is the foundation of this practice.  The daughter of a dentist, she has been a lifelong champion of preventative dentistry. Her love of children, and a desire to create lifelong healthy habits for her patients are the driving forces of our team.
Dr. McAuley spent her childhood in Ft. Lauderdale where she was active in Girl Scouts, Anchor Club (a service organization), band/drill team and an avid sailor. In high school she was a National Merit Semifinalist (top .5% in the nation) and received a perfect 800 on her math PSAT. Upon finishing high school, she decided to become a Tarheel at The University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Where, interestingly enough, she received her teaching degree.
After teaching high school Biology, Physics and Anatomy for two years (and being a cheerleading coach), she decided it was time for a change. So she packed up her teacher books and went back to Chapel Hill: this time to become a dentist.
The UNC …School of Dentistry is currently ranked number four in the US and Canada and is known as the top school for Dental research. In this capacity, Dr. McAuley was part of a team who published a work on the efficacy (capacity for beneficial change) of sealants. During this second stint in Chapel Hill, Dr. McAuley was married, served as Attorney General for the Honor Court, and graduated with honors. She was one of nine students, in her class of one hundred, inducted into the Dental Honor Fraternity– Omicron Kappa Upsilon.
Here she also continued her love of community service. As a senior, Dr. McAuley was one of four students who ran a Student Health Action Coalition (SHAC) clinic to provide free dental services to local underserved individuals.
Tobacco Road to Bluesville. Pulled pork to ribs. Dr. McAuley completed her pediatric residency at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis. During this time she presented a case study at the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry’s annual meeting in Toronto and completed her research on the effects of water filtration on water fluoride levels. She and her husband also had the first of her four children.
In 2000, Dr. McAuley and her family chose Pensacola to be close to extended family and fell in love with the area. Dr. McAuley is an active member of First United Methodist Church, has been involved in many community dental events such as “give kids a smile” and served on a weeklong dental mission trip to Costa Rica in 2009.
Her current non-dental interests include going to the many events of her children, spending time on the beach and swimming.
With education, a love of children and deep commitment to helping the Pensacola Community, Dr. McAuley and her team strive to raise children’s dental health awareness. Her primary focus is to educate both patients and parents on the importance of early dental care.
