Lauren B. Grossman, M.D., is a board certified and fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon who specializes in hand and upper extremity problems. She is the Associate Director of the Hand Center at Healthcare Associates in Medicine, a division of Orlin & Cohen Medical Specialists Group. Dr. Grossman joined Healthcare Associates in Medicine s hand subspecialist team in 2013, from the Stony Brook University Hospital Medical Center. She was recognized by Castle Connolly for her excellence in Orthopaedic Surgery and awarded Regional Top Doctor 2019-2021, Top Doctor NY Metro Area 2019-2021, and Exceptional Women in Medicine 2020.She attended Emory University in Atlanta, GA where she achieved the Emory University Dean s List 2001- 2003 and was accepted in the Alpha Kappa Delta: International Sociology Honor Society. Dr. Grossman traveled to Boston, MA to obtain her medical degree at Tufts University School of Medicine. Her academic success earned her the George L. Howland Prize and she …graduated with clinical honors in Hand Surgery, Orthopedic Trauma, Surgical Anatomy, Surgery, Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Family Medicine. She completed her residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at the SUNY Downstate Medical Center under the tutelage of Dr. William P. Urban, Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. Following the completion of her residency, Dr. Grossman remained in New York for specialized training in Hand and Microsurgery with Dr. Lawrence C. Hurst, Chief of the Division of Hand Surgery at Stony Brook University Medical Center.Dr. Grossman enjoys the opportunities presented to her as a hand specialist, from performing highly specialized and delicate elective microsurgery for trauma injuries, to helping patients in need globally through humanitarian surgical missions. Dr. Grossman has presented multiple research projects at different meetings including a new way to train microsurgical technique, carpal tunnel release techniques, scaphoid fixation and fixation of femur fractures. She enjoys teaching and mentoring, having presented an extensive online lecture series in 2020 through the Association for the Study of Internal Fixation (AO North America) and looks forward to providing additional lectures in 2021. As a member of the New York Society for Surgery of the Hand, Dr. Grossman also presented at the Society s 2018 and 2020 meetings. In conjunction with her tenure at Healthcare Associates in Medicine, a division of Orlin & Cohen Medical Specialists Group, Dr. Grossman has spent time in developing countries, volunteering her skills to help those who are unable to receive hand surgical care. She traveled to Honduras in 2018 with the Touching Hands Project, an ASSH program funded by the American Foundation for Surgery of the Hand, to provide free hand care to adults and children with upper extremity issues.
