Dr. Harrison is an internationally recognized and extensively published expert in the areas of head and neck cancer, sarcomas and intraoperative brachytherapy. He has been a leader in the development of multidisciplinary management strategies which prioritize cancer cure with organ and function preservation. He is a Fellow of the American Society for Radiation Oncology. He is the senior Editor of the textbook “Head and Neck Cancer: A Multidisciplinary Approach”, published by Lippincott-Raven and now entering its fourth edition. He is a co-editor of “Intraoperative Irradiation: Techniques and Results”, published by Humana Press, now in its second edition. Prior to joining Continuum in 1997, Dr. Harrison was Chief of the Brachytherapy Service and Leader of the Head and Neck Cancer Disease Management Team at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. He is active in a variety of medical committees and professional organizations including the American Society for Radiation Oncology …(ASTRO), the Radiation Oncology Institute (ROI), American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), and the International Society of Intraoperative Radiation Therapy (ISIORT). He is on the Board of Directors of the Eastern Division of the American Cancer Society. He has served as Chairman of the Board and President of ASTRO, President of the the American Brachytherapy Society, President of the ISIORT, as well as in numerous scientific boards and panels. He is the recipient of the Boyer Young Investigator Award for Biomedical Research, the Henschke Award, the Physician of Distinction Award of the American Cancer Society, and Special Recognition awards from SUNY Downstate Medical Center and Poly Prep Country Day School. Dr. Harrison has been annually named in the Castle Connolly “Top Doctors: New York Metro Area,” “Americas Top Doctors,” “Americas Top Doctors for Cancer,” and New York Magazine “Best Doctors” listing.
