Dr. Maria Guadalupe Falcon, MD

“My goal is to make everything as easy as possible for my patients and their families—if I can give them good news, that’s great, but sometimes it’s just helping with the little things, like bus tickets and free meals.”
Originally planning to practice obstetrics and gynecology, Dr. Falcon-Cantrill found herself instinctively following the baby after delivery. Her mentor told her it was surely a sign that she needed to consider pediatrics instead!
Since then, all signs indicate that pediatric hematology/oncology is truly her calling. Despite being apprehensive and emotional the night before her first pediatric hem/onc rotation, by the end of the day she didn’t want to leave the patients. Now, with her special interests in palliative care (inspired by Dr. Glen Medellín who holds the Greehey Distinguished Chair in Palliative Care for Children at University of Texas Health Science Center) and in adolescents and young adults with cancer, Dr. Falcon is enthusiastic about …joining Dr. Jaime Estrada and Dr. Gerardo Quezada at Pediatric Specialists of Texas.
Dr. Falcon has a Bachelor of Science degree from University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas. She studied medicine, completed her residency in pediatrics and her fellowship in pediatric hematology/oncology at University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. She was recognized as Outstanding Resident in Pediatrics during the second and third years of her residency.
Board certified in pediatrics and pediatric hematology/oncology, Dr. Falcon is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Texas Medical Association, Children’s Oncology Group, American Society of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology, and American Society of Hematology.
