What is your patient care philosophy?
My philosophy is to exhaust conservative measures for a patient’s condition before surgical intervention is instituted. I aim to educate patients about their condition so they can make informed decisions about the management of their condition. This allows …me to develop a therapeutic alliance with the patient.
What would you like people to know about you as a physician?
I am empathetic and listen attentively to my patients before formulating a diagnosis. I believe in being a strong advocate for my patients.
Why did you decide to become a physician?
I see being a physician as an opportunity to help others unconditionally, while still instilling hope and optimism during their episode of care.
What do you enjoy most about working with patients?
I truly enjoy getting my patients back to their healthy, active lifestyles safely and in the shortest possible time.
When did you know you wanted to be a doctor?
Ever since I was child, I wanted to become a medical doctor. The physicians in my family were my mentors growing up and heavily influenced my career path. My decision to specialize in orthopedic surgery came after having multiple injuries during my college soccer career.
How does your work improve lives?
For most patients who have had a joint replaced, everyday life becomes easier as their mobility is improved. Patients can be more active, as reasonable recreational activities become achievable and enjoyable again. Also, patients’ overall health is improved as increasing mobility reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease.
What are some interesting facts about you?
I’m an avid soccer fan. I played soccer at college and have also held the position of team doctor for The Trinidad and Tobago National Soccer team.
