Dr. Mark Bruce Landon, MD

Mark Landon, MD, is chair of and professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. Born and raised in New York City, Dr. Landon earned his medical degree from Cornell University Medical College in New York City. At Cornell, he was elected president of Alpha Omega Alpha. Dr. Landon completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and a fellowship in maternal fetal medicine at the same institution under Steven Gabbe, MD. Dr. Landon joined the faculty of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine before leaving in 1987 for a position as an assistant professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. At Ohio State, Dr. Landon, along with Dr. Gabbe, established the Diabetes in Pregnancy Program, one of the five largest in the United States. Dr. Landon became vice chair of the Department of Obstetrics and …Gynecology in 1997 and director of the Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine in 2002. He was promoted to professor of obstetrics and gynecology in 2000. In 2011, Dr. Landon was named the Richard L. Meiling Professor and Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. Dr. Landon has served on the board of directors of the Society for Maternal Fetal Medicine and has been an examiner for many years for general obstetrics as well as maternal fetal medicine for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is a member of numerous professional and scientific organizations. An internationally recognized authority on diabetes in pregnancy as well as vaginal birth after cesarean section, Dr. Landon has published more than 200 original articles and book chapters. He has served for more than 20 years as Ohio States co-investigator for the National Institutes of Child Health and Human Development Maternal Fetal Medicine Units Network. In this capacity, he has been the principal investigator of several multicenter studies and has led the Cesarean Section Registry as well as the largest prospective treatment trial ever conducted for gestational diabetes mellitus. He is an editor for the planned 6th Edition of Gabbe, Niebyl, Simpsons Obstetrics: Normal and Problem Pregnancies, a textbook to which he has contributed for the past 20 years.
