Dr. Mark Plunkett received his Bachelor of Science degree from Duke University and his Medical Degree at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He completed his Residency training in General and Cardiothoracic Surgery at Duke University Medical Center. He also received subspecialty Fellowship training in Pediatric Cardiac Surgery and Cardiac Transplantation at UCLA Medical Center. His clinical focus is Pediatric and Congenital Heart Surgery. He was previously an Associate Professor of Surgery and Program Director for the Cardiothoracic Surgery Residency and Fellowship Training Programs at UCLA. He then served as chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the UK College of Medicine and Children’s Hospital. He recently held a position as an Associate Professor of Surgery in the Division of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery and the Department of Surgery at the University of Minnesota School of Medicine. He is currently a Professor of Surgery at the University of Illinois College of …Medicine and a Pediatric and Congenital Heart surgeon at the Children’s Hospital of Illinois Congenital Heart Center.
Dr. Mark Plunkett is actively involved in local and national committees and editorial boards. His work is widely published and he has been recognized with numerous honors and teaching awards. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and is one of 160 surgeons in the US who are Board Certified by the ABTS in Pediatric and Congenital Heart Surgery.
