Dr. Matthew Hummell is the senior founding member of Austin Brain and Spine, P.A., and has more than 20 years of experience in the surgical and non-surgical management of diseases of the brain and spine.
He completed his neurosurgical residency in San Antonio and has been practicing in Austin since 1992. He is board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgeons and trained in instrumentation of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine. His practice scope includes tumors of the brain and spine, degenerative spine, and cerebrovascular disease.
Dr. Hummell was instrumental in the development of the neurosurgical trauma program at University Medical Center Brackenridge and helped found the Seton Brain and Spine Center. He has served as the Chief of Neurosurgery at University Medical Center Brackenridge and is currently a member of the hospital’s Trauma Committee. He is the most experienced Austin neurosurgeon currently performing both intracranial and spinal surgery.
