Dr. Michael Honan, MD

Dr. Mike Honan is an extraordinary Preventative, General and Invasive Cardiologist. He is a graduate of the University of Alabama, and received his MD degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham where he was a four-year recipient of a State of Alabama Merit Scholarship, and graduated with Honors. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine, and fellowship in Cardiovascular Diseases at Duke University Medical Center where he maintains a relationship through the Duke University Chief Medical Residents Society and Duke University Cooperative Cardiovascular Society. Dr. Honan is a member of many professional organizations including the American College of Cardiology, Medical Association of the State of Alabama and the American Heart Association. His involvement in the American Heart Association where he served several terms as Vice-President and President of the local board has earned him honors such as two Special Service Awards, a Distinguished Service Award, and an …Outstanding Program Award for coordinating the Living with Heart Disease series. The Alabama Chapter of the American College of Cardiology also received several Outstanding Chapter Awards and a HERO Award during his tenure as president and governor. He served numerous terms as Councilor, Treasurer, Chair of the Annual Session, Education Committee, and Public Health Committee. He has served as treasurer and president of the Birmingham Cardiovascular Society. Dr. Honan has been with CVA since 1989 and his dedication to his patients and our group has been demonstrated throughout his years of service. He has served in many leadership positions within our group and has been a champion of research, and has served as a principal investigator in numerous clinical trials, and has authored or co-authored many peer-reviewed articles and abstracts. Dr. Honan sees patients at the Colonnade and the Pell City offices of CVA. He performs diagnostic procedures and cares for patients at both the Brookwood Baptist Medical Center and Grandview Medical Center.
