Dr. Michael Patrick Lowe, MD

M. Patrick Lowe, M.D., is an assistant professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and Director of Robotics and Minimally Invasive Surgery Program for Gynecologic Oncology. He is a member of the Gynecologic Oncology Group, Society of Gynecologic Oncology, American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Minimally Invasive Robotic Association, and the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists. Additionally, he has served as an instructor for postgraduate courses on advanced laparoscopy and robotics for the Society of Gynecologic Oncology. He is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Gynecologic Oncology.
Dr. Lowe earned his medical degree at the University of Alabama School of Medicine, and completed his obstetrics and gynecology residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Dr. Lowe completed his fellowship in gynecologic-oncology at the University of Southern California where he trained in advanced …laparoscopic surgery. Upon completion of fellowship, he was one of the first gynecologic oncologist in the United States to receive certification on the da Vinci Surgical System after its FDA approval in April 2005. He has served as a clinical instructor at the University of Southern California and the University of Tennessee. Prior to joining the faculty at Northwestern University, he helped develop one of the first robotics programs in the United States at The West Clinic/University of Tennessee Gynecologic Oncology in 2005.
Dr. Lowe is a nationally recognized expert in robotic and laparoscopic surgery for gynecologic cancers and has been honored at the national and international level with several publications and presentations on robotic and laparoscopic surgery. His research achievements include co-founding the gynecologic oncology robotic surgical consortium that has reported the only multi-institutional experiences with robotic surgery to treat endometrial and cervical cancer. Dr. Lowe is also an expert in laparoscopic extraperitoneal aortic lymph node dissection for cervical cancer. He is well known for his surgical education videos (robotic/laparoscopy) that have been selected for presentation at national meetings for the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists, Society of Gynecologic Oncology, Minimally Invasive Robotic Association, and the American College of Surgeons. His videos (robotic, laparoscopic) posted online for trainee and patient education (YouTube-mpatricklowemd) have accrued over 141,000 page views since 2007.
