Education
Dr. Duchowny graduated from the Bronx High School of Science in 1962. He attended Cornell University, Ithaca, N.Y., 1962-1966, and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, N.Y., 1966-1970.
Medical Career
Dr. Duchowny interned in Pediatrics at the University of Chicago Hospitals and Clinics, and was a Resident in Pediatrics at Montefiore Hospital, Albert Einstein College of Medicine. After 2 years in the United States Public Health Service as a Commissioned Officer serving as a Research Associate at the National Institutes of Health, he completed Fellowship training in Neurology at the Harvard-Longwood Program where he was a United Cerebral Palsy fellow. He joined the Neurology faculty at Harvard Medical School in 1977, first serving as Instructor, and then as Assistant Clinical Professor.
Dr. Duchowny came to Miami in 1980 to join the Department of Neurology at Miami Children’s Hospital. He founded the Epilepsy Program, which he presently directs. He …currently holds the position of Senior Staff Attending Physician at Miami Children’s, and is a Professor of Neurology at the University Of Miami School Of Medicine. He directs the fellowship program in Clinical Neurophysiology, and the Neurology Training Programs at Miami Children’s Hospital. He chairs the Strategic Planning Initiative for the Miami Children’s Hospital Brain Institute. Dr. Duchowny has maintained a longstanding commitment to Bioethics and served as Chairman of the Miami Children’s Hospital Institutional Review Board from 1985-2001.
Committees and Consultancies
He is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Academy of Neurology and the American Board of Clinical Neurophysiology, and a member of the Child Neurology Society, International Child Neurology Society and American Epilepsy Society. He has served on numerous committees for these societies, and is an Examiner for the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He is past President of the Florida Neurology Society, and a longstanding member of the Professional Advisory Boards of the Epilepsy Foundation of South Florida, National Association of Epilepsy Centers and the Boggy Creek Gang. He is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Child Neurology and is a contributing editor to numerous professional journals. Dr. Duchowny has served as site reviewer for many academic programs and consulted widely for professional organizations, the Florida Birth Related Neurological Injury Compensation Association, and industry.

His interests over the years are primarily in teaching, clinical care and medical research. He has taught medical students, residents and the medical community through lectures, publications and books. His research has focused on developmental aspects of epilepsy including brain malformations, mapping brain functions and the surgical treatment of chronic epilepsy. Dr. Duchowny has authored over 100 articles in refereed medical journals, numerous book chapters and five books and monographs.
