ORTHODONTIC PHILOSOPHY
I wanted to share with you a little bit of information on the type of orthodontics I do. My practice is not limited to children alone. I treat patients of all ages for various orthodontic needs.
For children, I am of the philosophy of initiating treatment only when necessary. Therefore, my preference would be to begin most cases in the late mixed dentition stage when treatment can be completed in the shortest length of time. There are a few problems that may necessitate early treatment. These include cross bites as a …result of a narrow upper jaw, especially those that lead to abnormal positioning of the lower jaw or it’s shifting or crossbite of a single tooth. Other concerns may involve excess growth of the lower jaw resulting in protrusion of the lower teeth and chin that may require early intervention. It is my opinion, based on research data, that the great majority of bite problems can be successfully treated if treatment is initiated almost at the time that the last primary teeth are getting ready to exfoliate. This provides me space to resolve most crowding problems predictably in the least amount of time and with optimum results. In this manner I am also not confronted with patients being burned out from orthodontic work having been done at a younger age, and patient cooperation at the time when truly is needed would not become exceedingly difficult.
I also tremendously enjoy treating adult patients. I feel adult treatment progress is at times more rewarding, simply because they choose and desire this treatment whereas teenage patients often have treatment as a matter of routine and are guided by their parents. Personally as an adult, I can appreciate a patient’s aesthetic demands in light of their orthodontic needs. As a result, my patients enjoy the benefits of Invisalign for their orthodontic needs when it is the appropriate modality of treatment. For patients who are seeking ultimate aesthetic and treatment benefits, but are not good candidates for Invisalign; they enjoy benefits of iBraces, the invisible braces, in my practice.
I hope this little primer has been helpful. Please don’t hesitate to call us if you have any questions.
